Why choose a stone floor?
---
These days there are so many alternatives to stone: hardwood, ceramic; even concrete. But none of these come close to the look, the feel or the enduring quality of stone. There isn't any other material that really approximates the look of real stone. The subtle veining of marble, the versatile charm of travertine and the creamy beauty of a natural limestone are all unsurpassed by synthetic materials. Added to that, stone floors retain their value over time. We talk about making an 'investment' in a stone floor advisedly. Even in a high use environment, stone retains its looks over time. For immediate or long term commercial benefit, it will add considerable value to your property.
Which stone should I choose?
---
There are practical as well as aesthetic considerations here. All our stones are particularly hard wearing. Customers typically favour limestone for its suitability in a high use family home environment, marble for its aesthetics and travertine for its versatility. Check out our product pages for more information.
Why have tiles different shades?
---
| While some stones are consistent in colour and shading, most stones will have shade and veining variations. This is part of the beauty of natural stone and gives the special characteristics so often imitated by man made products. When choosing a natural stone floor it is always advisable to take a look at a large laid area as it can be difficult for a small sample to capture the overall look of a laid floor. | How do I care for my stone floor? |
---
Stone floors require very little maintenance. But get off to a good start by installing and sealing your floor correctly. We generally advise that a professional takes care of the installation process. (We can supply a list of approved local installers on request.) They will ensure that the tiles are sealed and adhered properly; thereby helping to ensure the long, trouble free life of your stone floor. For day to day cleaning, hoover regularly with the brush attachment. Wipe clean any spillages as soon as possible. When mopping your floor always use a PH neutral detergent and a clean mop these simple steps will help to keep your tiles looking at their very best.
